The Holy Scarf
By Ronica

Well, the hole is done.
Officially, and intentionally.
Now I just need to finish the rest, but I tried it out and it works.
See?

I promise to take the sticks out when the rest of the KNOTters show me how to BO and SIE.

Enfin!
By Irene
It's over! I am now so sick of this yarn (and I'm sure you are too) that I don't think I will ever knit with it again in my entire life. I feel so relieved now that it's finished, wrapped and waiting to be sent to my mother-in-law. Ouf! C'est fait!

Red Windy City Scarf: my first knitted thing!
By Ronica
OK, so you want proof? Here it is! I can see a few errors, but nothing huge (just some twisted yarns where I frogged and relooped). This yarn does seem to take forever, but I've made quite a bit of progress in the last few days, and I am proud to say I haven't frogged since Thursday. (My name is Ronica, and I am a frogaholic.)

The color is not completely true to the picture--it is actually a bit more of a cranberry color, but not quite as dark. Maybe lingonberry. Yeah, that's it, lingonberry. It is Debbie Bliss Alpaca Silk.
I haven't started the hole yet. (on purpose hole) I do love how soft it is, and how good it feels to hold the yarn.
An elderly man on the 83 bus yesterday wished me "Bon Courage!" It was very sweet, and elicited a rare thing on Parisian public transport--a smile.

Shopping, starting and almost finished!
By Irene
There's nothing more exhilarating than going to Le Bon Marché early in the morning and buy some new yarn. Today I bought a new pair of needles, circular needles and a cable stitch holder along with 12 balls of Phildar's Partner yarn. I can't wait to start new projects, including a scarf for my mother. I. Am. So. Happy.

In other news, I think I'm almost finished with the scarf for my mother-in-law. It is actually turning pretty good, but my husband suddenly said to me last night "you know, my mother's never going to believe that you actually made this, she'd probably think you bought it" and it hit me like a truck. It is true! She's never going to believe that I've actually put my heart and energy into making something for her for weeks. And she's never going to believe I can actually knit! So I decided to take pictures for evidence. Just in case, you know.

Le Petit Sapin...
By Sarah
...I have knit something for Zozo! Well, knit in the past tense isn't quite correct. It is still missing the beautiful golden pompom for the top of the tree but I am a complete failure when it comes to pompoms. I just can't make them! They fall apart, they are too big, they are too small, there is not enough yarn, my scissors aren't sharp enough. So, either I will ask someone else who is more skilled than I to make one or I will just buy one. I do think it is necessary though to drive home the cuteness of this hat.
The pattern can be found here. It was incredibly easy. I used a yarn called Randonee by Jacques Fonty. I have never heard of this yarn but it was the best shade of green available at the little yarn shop downtown. I could have gone for something a bit softer but I don't think it is going to be worn that often. Hopefully, by the time it is worn Zozo will be a few weeks old instead of a few days old. But I read on Anne-Caroline's blog today that babies don't come until you are done knitting for them so I had better figure out the pompom situation soon!

A scarf for my father-in-law
By Irene
This year's Christmas presents are all going to be knitted, I can feel it. and while I'm still struggling with the scarf for my mother-in-law (yes, the one that started off as Moss Stitch but then turned into Rib), here's a picture of the scarf I knitted for my father-in-law. it is Bouton d'Or yarn with wool and camel hair.

Nifty Needle Holder
By Andie
I'm a sewer too, so whipped up this needled holder from SnB. Easy and quick and fun to make. The fabric is thick, upholstery material from Marché St. Pierre on clearance because it's the last in stock. Can you tell I like purple tones?

Lesson learned...
By Sarah
Earlier today there was a quote over there to the right about "untying knots". I like to consider myself a risky knitter, meaning that I rarely check my gauge. It is true that I haven't really made anything that really required me to check my gauge and I lucked out with the one sweater that I did almost finish making but I also like to take the chance that things are going to work. Usually I figure that frogging the small progress I have made takes about the same amount of time as making gauge swatch after gauge swatch.
Well, Thursday I showed up to KNOTs raring to go with my new purchase of 9 balls of Rowan handknit cotton. I was going to make this kid o'mine a sweater. The yarn was the exact gauge called for in the pattern even though it wasn't the exact yarn. I plunged in. I was making a sweater in a 2 year old size knowing my bad habit of unfinished projects. (FYI: The baby is not even born yet.) Everything seemed to be progressing well even though it seemed a bit big and loose. The KNOTs crew was being ever so supportive. "Ribbing gets tighter" "I think it looks good!" After the ribbing, I switched to the 4mm and continued along. Later on that night, around 1 am, almost finished with the first ball, I admitted my defeat. It was too big and too loose. I needed to go down a needle size. I needed to frog the whole thing. I needed to check my gauge. I untied the knots.
So like all good knitters, I moved onto another project. A friend was going to have her baby any moment and at this same late hour that I admitted my defeat, I decided upon my next move. The very next morning I headed down to the local yarn shop and picked up several pelotes of cotton yarn...
I spent most of the day switching between knitting and other various tasks around the house. I was able to complete the back in one day! One day! I might actually finish this! (It's recipient, Esteban, was born yesterday morning.) And guess what? I did check my gauge this time...
Pattern: Funky Tank Top from Adorable Knits for Tots by Zoe Mellor
Yarn: Various cotton yarns no name brands, some even came without labels
Needles: 3 3/4mm (US 5) and 4mm (US 6)
Size: 6-12 months

Baby scarves!
By Irene
First of all, let's thank and praise Aussie Lass for her wonderful job creating this weblog!
Knitting for only a couple of months, I do not have many finished projects to show (except for a weird thumb big white mitten and a doll winter hat that was initially for my husband), but I really like those two baby scarves I made for my 6 month-old nephew. I experimented with Double Mos stitch for the blue one and stripes for the other one. I'm planning on sending them next week as a Christmas present, hoping that he'll like them.

The Shrug is Done!!!
By Andie
After months of having this thing on my needles (it is my first "real" project) it's finally done! It was originally for a wedding last May, but after having started with 6 rows, I tired of knitting and gave it a break until meeting the fabulous KNOTS group, who have been a constant source of motivation and inspiration. The deets: it was supposed to be made with Paton's Katrina but I substituted with Rowan Kid Classic on size 5,5 m needles.
Now I've got a huge knitting bug and just ordered 163 euros worth of yarn and stuff: the Rowan Fall pattern book, 4 skeins of Rowan ribbon yarn to make a cabled capelet, the coveted Colinette 5 point for a sweater, 4 skeins of Debbie Bliss cotton for a Gab sweater plus I have a tons of Xmas things to make such as a couple scarves, mini sweaters, Ipod covers.
Thanks KNOTS for so much inspiration and thanks Aussie Lass for putting up this fabulous website!

Baby Knots: a Knitting Newbie in Paris
By Ronica
Bonjour!
For my very first entry I would just like to say thank you to my new friends for accepting me and my (somewhat geeky) husband into their group, for teaching me to knit, for being ever-so-patient as I spend an entire winter on one scarf, and for setting up this cool website.
Because, you know, knitting is very "tendance" in Paris right now...
Especially Knitting In Public. In English. With assorted sweet drinks and edibles on little white plates.
tendance= trendy, hip, happening, swell, far-out, groovy, fashionable, "girl destroy"--yes, they really say that here and think it's cool. [Groan]
Merci! Bonne Weekend! Au Revoir! Bises!

KNOTs blog is born
By Katia
We've been talking about it for weeks, and after working on it on and off for awhile, I finally managed to find the time to finish it today - the KNOTs blog, authored by a bunch of lovely ladies living in a city called Paris, in France. You might have heard of it...
Anyway, here we'll talk about everything and anything related to our past, present and future knitting projects, as well as some general KNOTs chat, but it's not just restricted to knitting - I'm sure there are quite a few other crafty things on the blogging agenda as well.
So whilst we get started, anyone for a Café Mocha Blanc? Mmmm.
